CORONATION ARGOS

Lea Hall Sports & Social came out 3-1 winners against The York in the battle of last seasons Premier Divisions top two. Robbie Beard thought he had given Social an early lead, but was thwarted by an offside flag. However, Social were ahead shortly afterwards as, man of the match, Micky White headed home from Johnnie Hunt’s corner. The York levelled on 35 minutes when Duane Houston latched on to a Michael Batchelor flick on to slot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Social’s superior fitness gave them the edge in the second half and they regained the lead when Robbie Beard nipped in to convert, after James Wood’s effort was parried by the ‘keeper. Beard, the smallest man on the pitch, made it 3-1 when he rose to head home Hunts corner in a crowded penalty box. The York rallied late on and Houston was unlucky not to pull one back as his effort rebounded off the post. Marston Green were mesmorised by an outstanding Moseley Mariners and went down 5-0. Mariners seemed like the all conquering team of bygone years as they went about their business with some delightful play. Matt Hawker, Chris Gumery, Jack Edwards and a Joe Clark brace doing the damage for Mariners. Sean Callaghan cracked a 30-yard corker to give Clements 83 their first goal and first win as a Premier side, as they overcame a spirited Highgate Celtic 1-0. In Premier One, it was a share of the points as Maxtel United and Windermere drew 1-1. Jonathan Brady netting for Windermere with Daniel Collins hitting the target for Maxtel. Hampton Sports A sneaked through to Round 2 of the George Tomlinson Cup, virtue of penalties, after a 1-1 draw against Star. Luke Brotherton strike for Sports was cancelled out by a Ryan Taylor effort in normal time. Shenley Green flashed five past College Arms in their First Round Jim Walsh game. Ryan Moore bagged Arms goal, but Andy Gubbins, Lee Podmore, Dave Louden and a Michael Wilson double gave the tie to Shenley.
